Account Manager – Healthcare

Are you outgoing? Self assured? Fast paced? Do you thrive when you are spinning multiple plates at a time? If so, Schaefer Advertising may have just the opportunity for you. We are seeking an organized, self sufficient, independent account manager with experience in and passion for healthcare. Specific experience in Pharma or Medical Devices is a plus.

This is an opportunity to be a part of managing brands for one of our high profile clients. The ideal person is one who can diplomatically and effectively influence people and thrives in a fast-moving environment. 3-5 years experience within the agency or client environment. If client side, you’ll need to have experience working directly with/preferably managing an ad agency partner.

Healthcare marketing experience.

Ability to handle multiple projects at any one time is essential.

College degree, MBA not required but certainly preferred.


The primary focus will be to manage key brands under the portfolio of a well-established client, nationally recognized as a leader in the pharmaceutical industry.

Our Ideal Account Manager

Has a voracious appetite for learning about your clients businesses and about the world of advertising but also brings existing experience and knowledge of pharmaceutical or medical device marketing.

Sets a motivational tone and establishes a high degree of optimism focused on the people you work with and the clients we work for.

Is outgoing and persuasive and very comfortable meeting new people. Optimistic and upbeat in manner, flexible with others, and uses a persuasive and “selling” communication style.

Is a good listener that will glean the important information from team and client and be able to articulate those points when needed.

Derives energy from others and gives positive energy right back to them – whether it is in the actual work environment or simply in a social situation.

Is very flexible, adaptable to change and pressure, due to shifting priorities or deadlines. You respond positively to unpredictable situations or problems that can occur throughout your work responsibilities.

Sometimes perceived as impatient, but in reality driven to react quickly and juggle tasks simultaneously. Pushes yourself and those around you to perform at peak levels.

Has a high emotional IQ – attentive to the needs of others, but keeps an eye on the objective needs of the situation.

Maintains a lot of practical, common sense and knows how to use it to develop intelligent solutions.

Engages proactively in using agency resources to develop and present strategic direction for accounts, in partnership with agency account leadership.

Owns all project management of related client initiatives.


Key Responsibilities

The AM is expected to work seamlessly with agency teams to bring client initiatives to completion. The AM also has fiscal accountability at the account level — including management of project and client budgets and account profitability and growth.


Identifies and constructively thinks about strategic client opportunities and marketing initiatives under the leadership of agency management.

Leverages the agency planning resources for development and presentation of strategic account plans, presentations.


Executes marketing programs that yield the desired business results for our clients, above all else.

Manages, maintains and builds client relationships to support agency growth.

Maintains proactive communications with both client and management team on account and project status.

Owns project management for all account initiatives to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget and meet or exceed client expectations.

Articulates, and adheres to, agreed upon project directives and production guidelines.

Collaborates effectively with creative, production and other teams to facilitate and complete client initiatives.

Accepts responsibility for developing the positioning strategy for all creative projects.

Sells the positioning strategy (creative brief) to clients and present to creative upon client approval.

Remains extremely comfortable presenting the agency’s POV/Creative in a compelling, engaging non-combative way to clients and internal stakeholders.

Prepares or oversees accurate and timely internal communication: conference reports, status reports, budgets, etc.

Seeks opportunities to grow client engagements organically and collaborates with agency resources to cultivate this potential.


Initiates and sells in appropriate recommendations to support client objectives and grow account profitability.

Works in conjunction with creative team, production manager and external resources to develop estimates and get them approved by our clients.

Works with production manager and accounting rep on monthly billing for assigned clients.

Participates in monthly client forecasting.




Summer 2018 Internships

Do you have the right stuff? Summer training begins on May 21st and will last for 10 weeks. You’ll put in around 28 hours per week for an approx. total of 182 credit hours for the season. We welcome the opportunity to apply your time with us towards university credit.

Graphic Design Internship

Do you doodle on your doodles? Do you hate orphans and widows? Is your hardest decision of the day to go serif or sans? If you can relate, then show us your stuff.

The Graphic Design intern will be coached by a creative manager and work closely with all members of the Creative Team. Here’s the game plan:

    • Creative development
    • Computer layout
    • Presentation prep
    • Schaefer brand projects
    • Creative Team brainstorms
    • Excessive doodling


Must be a junior or senior with a major that’s pertinent to graphic design

3.0 cumulative GPA or higher

Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite

Portfolio of work

It helps if you’re involved in extra-curricular activities, on campus or off

You must sign a confidentiality agreement

You must have a valid driver’s license

Must be available to work for the required weekly hours indicated for the semester

Must take direction well and be detail-oriented

Coding/HTML experience is a plus

Be eager to learn and join in creative exercises

Account Service Internship

Account Service is not for the weak. Not only are you the liaison between the client and creative team, you must understand the client in and out. You anticipate the client’s needs and solve any problems they have. Are you strategy driven, a good communicator and detail-oriented? If so, show us what you got.

The Account Service intern will be coached by an individual account manager while helping support the entire agency-wide team. Here’s the game plan:

    • Media planning/coordinating
    • Metrics report analysis
    • Client meetings
    • Client support research
    • Schaefer brand projects
    • Agency-wide brainstorms


Must be a junior or senior with a major that’s pertinent to marketing
