One of our favorite ways to spread goodness and cheer into the new year is giving back. That’s why we rounded up a list of six organizations in our community that would love your support this holiday season.
Transform the life of a child by donating to programs that empower single mothers in Fort Worth’s Stop Six neighborhood. Each program helps equip women with the foundation and skills they need to embrace motherhood and walk out of generational poverty as strong, capable women.

With a goal of creating positive change for kids and families in North Texas, Gary Patterson and Leon Bridges joined forces to createThe Big Good. A nonprofit focused on giving back to the community in bigger ways than ever before.
Donations to the Fort Worth Zoo help support conservation efforts locally and around the world. But that’s not the only way to give. Memberships come with year-long access to the Fort Worth Zoo and support the nearly 7,000 animals that call it home. And holiday adoption packages help provide food and care for Zoo animals and come ready-to-gift with a plush you can cuddle up to.
A great way to support art and culture in North Texas is by donating to the Texas Ballet Theater. Gifts support the company, its artists and its programs, allowing for more people to share in the beauty of ballet.
Camp Wonder is a non-profit summer camp for children impacted by serious and fatal skin diseases. The weeklong camp offers positivity, acceptance and medical support to give their campers a chance to enjoy being a kid.

What a Bright Time
It’s the right time to bake the night away! There’s nothing better than the smell of cookies baking in the oven on Christmas Eve and savoring them on Christmas Day. So here’s a recipe for how to bake and enjoy them!
Schaefer Sugar Cookies

- 3/4 Cup Unsalted Butter, Slightly Softened to Room Temperature
- 3/4 Cup Granulated Sugar
- 1 Large Egg, At Room Temperature
- 2 Teaspoons Vanilla Extract
- 1/4 Teaspoon Almond Extract
- 2 and 1/4 Cups All-Purpose Flour
- 1/2 Teaspoon Baking Powder
- 1/4 Teaspoon Salt
- 4 Cups Powdered Sugar
- 6 TBSP Unsalted Butter
- 1/4 Cup Milk
- 1/4 Tsp Almond Extract
Instructions
- In large bowl, beat butter until creamed and smooth – about 1 minute. Add sugar and beat on high speed until light and fluffy, about 3 or 4 minutes. Scrape sides and bottom of bowl. Add egg, vanilla, and almond extract and beat on high until fully combined, about 2 minutes. Scrape sides and bottom of bowl.
- Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt together in medium bowl. Turn mixer to low and add half of flour mixture, beating until just barely combined. Add rest of flour and continue mixing until just combined. If dough still seems too soft, add 1 Tbl more flour until it is a better consistency for rolling.
- Chill for one hour.
- Once chilled, preheat oven to 350°F. Roll out and using your limited-edition Schaefer Squirrel cookie cutter, cut into shapes. Transfer cut cookie dough to baking sheet. Re-roll remaining dough and continue cutting.
- Bake for 8-11 minutes, until very lightly colored on top and around the edges. Allow to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes, transfer to wire rack to cool completely before icing.
- For icing, combine all ingredients and beat for two minutes. Decorate cooled cookies and share with @schaeferadco!
